Certain Town Planning Schemes, dependent upon the local authority, allow a second dwelling unit (granny flat) for primary use. No application is therefore required.
Some local authorities do still require an application to be done to obtain the rights to allow the additional unit. These units are also mostly controlled in terms of their size.
